"The Toad was thought to be venomous, and hold a precious stone in its head, the Philosophers Stone! In ancient writings a story tells of the poisonous Toad, sipping the juice of a grape, then filling up and turning inside out, giving off poison (venom) ...
Alchemy was the ancient craft practised by Egyptians through to Medieval times, being the forerunner to chemistry we know today. However, they believed the chemical processes also invoked spirits and enlightened the soul so many magical rituals were performed at the same time. In the chemical process of decomposition or burning, substances turn into a black mass initially, then a whisp of the White Eagle appears (smoke or fungi spores), venom appears (The Snake) and finally it bursts into flame ...The Phoenix ..."
